Description
This popular Skagway tour has a little bit of everything: a catamaran cruise, rainforest hike, and a scenic canoe journey that culminates with an up-close view of Davidson Glacier! This Glacier Point Wilderness Safari is one of the most positively-reviewed excursions and is the only tour in Skagway that ventures this close to a glacier without a helicopter! Journey to a truly remote wilderness setting surrounded by awe-inspiring beauty. Its exclusivity means limited seating and only a couple departures daily, so advanced reservations are highly recommended.
The adventure starts with a 45-minute boat ride on a custom-designed catamaran with an enclosed cabin through the Lynn Canal, North America's longest and deepest fjord. This boat ride provides a whole new perspective on the area: slightly different than you will see from the cruise deck and it's common to see whales and seals along the way. Your naturalist guide provides a wealth of information as you cruise by cascading waterfalls originating from high mountain glaciers. Upon arrival at the secluded Glacier Point beach, a short bus ride takes you to base camp. From there, gear up for a ¼ mile walk where suddenly the rainforest opens up to showcase Davidson Glacier in its majestic beauty.
You'll board a motor-assisted 31-foot voyager canoe to journey towards the glacier. How close you get to the glacier depends on the weather and lake conditions, so while we can't guarantee that you'll be able to get out of the canoe and walk right up to the glacier, rest assured you'll have spectacular views either way. Return to Glacier Point for a picnic lunch on the beach and soak in those last moments of this special wilderness area before the return boat trip back to Skagway.
