    Get ready for a thrilling backcountry adventure on this Mahoney Lake UTV Offroad Safari! This is the perfect tour for those looking for a fun and exciting way to explore Alaska's magnificent scenery off-the-beaten-path and away from the crowds. You'll be cruising through stunning mountain trails to a breathtaking remote lake and then you'll be treated to reindeer sausage and chili upon your return. If you're a thrill-seeker and nature lover that doesn't mind getting dirty, this is the Ketchikan excursion for you!

    Your offroad adventure begins with pickup in downtown Ketchikan followed by a scenic drive to the White River base camp. Here, your friendly local guides will cover everything you need to know as you gear up and become familiar with your two-seater UTV. Finally, your backcountry journey begins as you ride along the mountainous trails of the George Inlet Fjords and wildlife-rich Tongass National Forest. You'll be following your guide and will have the opportunity to make several stops along the way to soak up the scenery, take some photos, and switch drivers if you desire. You'll enjoy breathtaking views at the secluded Mahoney Lake and Mahoney Falls. When you've had your fill, it's time to enjoy another fun ride back to base camp, making sure to take it all in for an epic day in Ketchikan's backcountry. Back at home base, you'll enjoy reindeer sausage, chili, and hot beverages where you can sit back, relax, and take in the water views!  Lovers of outdoor adventure, you do not want to miss this quintessential Alaskan experience!

    Can I bring a backpack?
    You are more than welcome to. If you have necessities such as medications, cameras or personal belongings you wish to bring, a guide will be able to help you secure your pack into a vehicle.
    What should I wear?
    Arriving at the Tongass National Rainforest you should expect chilly, wet temperatures. The average high temperature in July is 64 degrees fahrenheit. You may get wet, dirty or dusty, so dress appropriately. Closed toe shoes are required. Additional sweatshirts are available for purchase in our gift shop. Raingear is provided on tour.
    Is roundtrip transportation provided?
    Yes! Pickup and drop off in downtown Ketchikan is provided. Detailed meeting instructions will be provided when you book. The meeting point is approximately a 5-15 minute walk from the *downtown Ketchikan cruise docks*. If you are traveling on a cruise line that arrives at the *Ward Cove Cruise Terminal*, you must take the 25-minute shuttle to the downtown Ketchikan area.
    Can we all drive our own UTV?
    The UTVs are 2-seaters with 4-seaters available upon request. There are multiple stops where the driver and passenger can switch. Tours are sold by the seat. You may be asked to be paired up with another guest depending on the current capacity of the tour.
    What are the requirements to drive?
    All drivers must have a valid driver’s license. Licensed drivers under the age of 18 must have a licensed legal guardian with them in the vehicle.
    Do I need previous experience to drive the UTV?
    Nope! If you can drive a car, you can drive the UTVs. They are fully automatic and require simple steering.
    Are all of the UTV two-seaters?
    4-seater UTVs are available upon request. Please make a note at booking.

    Minimum Age: 8 years old • Maximum Weight: 350 lbs
    All drivers must have a valid driver’s license and be 18+
    Cancel up to 14-days before the tour for a refund. No refund is available if canceled within 14-days of the tour. If for any reason your tour is canceled, or if your cruise ship's schedule changes, you will receive a refund. Refunds do not include any non-refundable fees.     Meet your guides near the cruise docks in downtown Ketchikan for a scenic drive out to private land in the Tongass Rainforest where your tour will take place.

    Gear up with helmets & rain gear (if needed) before learning how to use the machines from your expert guides, and any other safety information you need before your tour.

    After loading up in your 2-seater UTVs, enjoy an exciting and beautiful ride out to Mahoney Lake. You'll stop along the way for views of George Inlet & the surrounding mountains.

    At Mahoney Lake, enjoy a short walk through the woods for stunning views, then keep an eye out for salmon that have swum up to spawn, and look back towards the towering Mahoney Falls behind you.

    With no stops along the way, your return journey will be equally as thrilling, but a bit shorter than the trip out to the lake.

    On your return to basecamp, return your gear and enjoy a snack of smokin’ reindeer link served on a warm bun and a cup of simmering chili.
